I know we're all LOST fans here, but ever since Tricia Tanaka is Dead, I've thought this was an absolute kick-a$$ season. For the most part, this is because during that specific episode, I found out that I no longer needed clue-solving tidbits, advances in the mythology, or other game-changing info, to appreciate this series. It's about the characters. Now I know this season is the best yet. Yeah...I said it. LOST deserves many Emmy's this season. For Best Drama, as well as a slew of actor categories.
I think the reason I enjoy the season so much is that they did what I perceive as nearly impossible. They answered a ton of questions (wait...stop and think before you disagree) while still opening a few more (some would say it's tad more than "a few"). Anyway, this episode was fantastic. It was the only episode that actually felt longer than an hour. I liken it to waking up at 2am only to notice you still have 5 hours to sleep. I looked at the episode clock expecting it to say 30 minutes and it was 8 minutes into it. Ahhh - my head hits the cold pillow again for more dreamy enjoyment.
I'm also in a very good mood because I think the whole "you're gonna die Charlie" was a major "foiler". Charlie is one of my favorite characters - the writers use him not only as a comic outlet, but as a story protagonist. The only reason I could understand why they'd kill off Charlie is if Dominic wanted to move on. I personally think he respects and loves his role and will stay loyal to it until the end.
Recap:
- So Rousseau was grabbing dynamite for Jack at the BlackRock. I had a feeling after last week's sneak peek, but it was still cool. Still, this accentuates a main point from last episode: Locke didn't give a sh** what Rousseau was doing with the dynamite because he's on his own path.
- Jack's hair is getting long. I sort of like that he's leading again. He's taking charge and saying "you elected me leader, so don't question my decisions." I like and respect that, but I still wouldn't be such a lemming if I was a Lostie. He lived there with the Others cordially for some time now. They gave him a piano, his own room, etc. I probably wouldn't understand why all of a sudden he wants to nuke them.
- I like Karl. I like Alex even more. She's hot, and she's basically a bada$$ gun distributor. How cool was it that how that gun was recycled? From Alex to Locke to Ben to Alex to Karl to Jack. Awesome. Given the chain that it's been through so far, look for it to be the demise of one of the characters I just mentioned.
- The new Ryan character. The Other Army general. Wonder if he'll be a regular next season?
- Given that last few episodes, shouldn't we have immediately questioned Desmond flashes without seeing it for ourselves? I'm not saying he's lying, but we should now take Dessy's flashes with a grain of salt.
- Thank God my wife is not like Rose. She's such a damn know-it-all. She's annoyed me from Day 1.
- I was awfully surprised to see Desmond so willingly take the place of Charlie under the sea. Come on...(update: Remember "Le Mer" that Shannon sung in Season1??
- Oh. My. God. The underwater station. The "Looking Glass". I'm sure you've all figured out by now, but the Looking Glass is central to the Alice in Wonderland story. Alice walked to the mirror, and passed through it, entering another dimension where everything was backwards. Interesting that the finale is called "Through the Looking Glass".
Scenes from the next:
- Looks like someone is firing at Desmond in the boat. With nowhere to run, he dives under to join Charlie (which is an awesome twist). They show Desmond wet, standing with a gun pointed at someone.
- Charlie's getting the crap beat out of him in the Looking Glass. Is Mikhail down there too? Does he survive for the time being? I think so.
- I think I saw Mikhail down there too! If this is correct, follow my logic: he either swam under (unlikely considering the proximity of the cable to the Losties) or he took the sub (that John didn't blow up). I didn't see the sub though, and considering the schematics, it would have hit Carlie square in the head as he surfaced in the Moon Pool. So, it's not there. Interesting.
In Conclusion:
Charlie will live.
I'm the guy who follows the actor interviews, listens to what they say, and analyzes the growth of their careers, motives to leave the show, etc. Therefore, I come to the conclusion that TPTB (the powers that be) have been messing with us for a while now. Charlie was never going to die, despite the fact that Dom (Charlie) admitted to not being cast in the finale. Congrats Mr Cuse. and Mr. Lindelof. Another standing ovation from us all.
